Hot water cylinders are brilliant for delivering hot water to your home. If you have more than one bathroom, a combi-boiler just won’t cut it!
Water cylinders are designed to keep your water hot as it is being stored, so that when you turn on the tap, your water is nice and hot (nothing worse than the hot water of a shower turning cold halfway through in the middle of winter!).
There are two main types of hot water cylinder to choose from; vented and unvented. Each type has its own characteristics and benefits. Find out more by reading below:
Difference between vented and unvented cylinders
A vented hot water cylinder is designed by carrying a vent pipe that helps react to any pressure. The mains water is led to a tank that stores cold water. This water storage tank holds the water until it is required by an appliance in your home.
Unvented cylinders are designed to be installed at the mains water heat source. Its set up is more or less the same as a vented cylinder.
However, the water flow may be different. An unvented cylinder removes the requirement for cold water altogether. You basically remove the middle man to improve the pressure of the water.
Benefits of a vented cylinder
The most advantageous attribute of a vented hot water cylinder is that it is easy to install. It is less complicated than any other form of a cylinder. Hot water cylinders are also less expensive to maintain as well. It is overall a more feasible and reliable option for numerous homeowners that are on a limited income or have allotted a limited budget to their home improvement.
Vented and unvented cylinders are designed to provide the heating system to a boiler, immersion heater placed in the cylinder, or as a part of a solar thermal system.
Benefits of an Unvented Cylinder
A cold water tank or cylinder is not required in the installation of an unvented water cylinder. This saves space in your house.
An unvented hot water cylinder is an excellent alternative to improving shower or baths without the need to upgrade all your appliances.
The hot water is introduced to the unvented cylinder as the primary source. This results in better waterflow with a better pressure.
We can all agree that showers are much more pleasing when cold water is not involved. The fact that mains pressure is being used and not just gravity, the cylinder can be placed anywhere, and it will work efficiently nonetheless.
An unvented water cylinder is an expensive option, but it is justified by better water pressure.
