Complete Heating recently completed a full bathroom refurbishment for a property in Stratford. The project involved removing the existing bathroom and installing a completely new layout including a walk-in shower, freestanding bath, new tiling and modern sanitaryware.
The aim was to create a clean, practical and modern bathroom while ensuring all plumbing, waterproofing and structural preparation was carried out correctly before the final installation.
As with any full refurbishment, the project was completed in stages including first fix plumbing, floor preparation, waterproofing, tiling and final installation of all fixtures.
The Project
The existing bathroom was stripped back to allow the room to be rebuilt properly from the ground up.
This allowed the plumbing pipework, floor preparation and waterproofing to be installed correctly before any final fixtures or finishes were fitted.
The refurbishment included the installation of:
- Walk-in shower with glass screen
- Freestanding bath
- Wall mounted bath shower mixer tap
- New toilet and basin
- Fully tiled floor
- Fully tiled shower enclosure
- Half height wall tiling around the remainder of the room
The finished result is a modern and practical bathroom with clean lines and durable materials designed to last.
First Fix Plumbing
The project began with the first fix installation of all new pipework.
This stage involved installing the pipework for:
- Bath
- Shower
- Basin
- Toilet
Completing the plumbing first ensures all connections are correctly positioned before the room is sealed and tiled.
Careful planning at this stage helps avoid unnecessary alterations later in the project.
Floor Preparation
Before tiling could begin, the floor required proper preparation to ensure a solid and stable base.
The floor was prepared using:
- HardieBacker floor boards
- Anti-fracture matting
This system helps strengthen the floor and reduce the risk of tiles cracking due to movement over time.
The preparation stage is one of the most important parts of a long-lasting tiled floor installation.
Shower Tray Installation
A new shower tray was installed as part of the walk-in shower area.
To protect the surrounding floor and prevent leaks, a Classi Seal waterproofing system was installed around the tray before tiling.
This creates a secure waterproof seal between the shower tray and the floor structure.
Waterproofing the Wet Areas
Before tiling the shower and bath areas, the walls were fully prepared and waterproofed.
This involved the tanking of all wet areas, including:
- Shower enclosure walls
- Bath area
Waterproof tanking protects the wall structure behind the tiles and prevents moisture from penetrating the building fabric.
This is an essential step in professional bathroom installations.
Wall and Floor Tiling
Once the room had been fully prepared, the tiling work was carried out.
The project included:
- Full tiling of the bathroom floor
- Full tiling of the shower enclosure
- Half height tiling around the remaining walls
Large format tiles were used to create a clean and modern appearance while also making the room easier to maintain.
Tile levelling clips were used during installation to ensure an even and professional finish across the floor.
Second Fix Installation
After the tiling was complete, the final fixtures and fittings were installed.
This stage included the installation of:
- Freestanding bath
- Bath shower wall mounted mixer tap
- Walk-in shower with glass screen and brace bar
- Toilet
- Basin and pedestal
Each fixture was carefully positioned and connected to ensure correct operation and a tidy overall finish.
Finishing and Sealing
Once all fixtures were installed, the bathroom was completed with:
- Colour matched grout
- Professional silicone sealing
The silicone seals protect the edges of the shower tray, bath and sanitaryware to prevent water ingress and maintain the longevity of the installation.
The Result
The completed bathroom provides the homeowner with a clean, modern and practical space designed for everyday use.
The refurbishment delivered:
- A spacious walk-in shower
- A freestanding bath
- Durable tiled surfaces
- Modern sanitaryware
- Proper waterproofing and floor preparation
- A tidy and well finished installation
